Your wedding nails, a guide to help you keep them in tip-top condition for your special day.

Artificial nails

First things first, if you need a quick way to conceal damaged or short nails then artificial nail extensions are the way to go. If you want to try artificial nails make sure you book a consultation at least 5-6 months before your special day. This way if you decide against wearing artificial nails this will allow enough time for your new nails to grow.

Natural nails

If you are planning on growing your nails for the special occasion then book an appoint with a manicurist about 4 – 5 months before your special day. If you have brittle, split or dry nails then the manicurist will be able to advise you on the best course of treatment. Natural nails need lots of time and patience and you should allow 2 – 3 months or regular treatment use before the results can bee seen.

There are ways you can prevent your nails from splitting and chipping.  Methods like warm almond oil assist healthy nail growth, use cotton buds to push back cuticles. When using your hands for housework or gardening then wear rubber gloves.

You can encourage your nails to grow by clipping them every six weeks. When using a file make sure you use long smooth strokes, never file your nails in a sawing motion. When trimming the nails make sure you start from the edges of the nail and not in the middle to prevent them from splitting.

It’s the day before your special day, its now time to go and have your nails professionally manicured. Also get your toes done while you are there. If you have time on the wedding morning then this is something you might get done by getting the manicurist to come to you or if you are having a girly night in the night before your special day why not make it a party and get the bridesmaids done as well.

If you do have your manicure the day before try to keep your feet and hands out of the water as much as possible as the water and reduce the life of your manicure and encourages peeling.

Going alone

If you have decided to paint your own nails then use a number of strokes so its even all the way over the nail, a dozen strokes is usually enough. Try to use pale colours as they show blemishes less than prominent colours and the best top of all make sure you use an off-white shade if you are planning on the traditional French style, bright white will look fake.
